We stayed at the Koloa House the first week of 2016 after winning it at last year’s auction. What a fantastic way to ring in the new year! The house and location were fabulous and even better than we expected! There was ample room in the house for the 3 of us— it is so spacious it would be comfortable for up to 6 adults with a couple kids thrown in! The house has all the amenities you need and the yard is beautiful. The neighborhood is peaceful and traffic free and the music of the frogs reminds you that you are in a tropical paradise! Fabulous snorkeling, turtle viewing and coastal exploring are a short walk out the door with all the beach and snorkeling equipment you need available right in the garage! Locals and tourists alike enjoy the water and views from these spots but the house is also a short drive to many other beautiful points of interest and very accessible to Volcano National Park and some incredible snorkeling at the Lava tide pools. We have stayed on the Kona side of the island, but much preferred our stay in the very low key, laid back, extremely friendly and casual Hilo area with Koloa House being in a perfect neighborhood. All you need is a rental car (believe it or not, gas prices were lower than in Los Angeles), a swim suit and some grocery money! The owners’ suggestions and recommendations for things to do, sites to see, descriptions of places to dine (or not!) were all helpful and very much the inside scoop! Thanks for the descriptive guide about the home and local area, It was very easy to get comfortable and familiar with place. You will not be disappointed in your stay at Koloa house if you are looking for a beautiful location to relax while having all the conveniences of being in a home. It is a perfect way to unplug! While wifi is available, the fact that there are no TVs was great…our 9 year old found plenty of ways to keep busy and have fun and we enjoyed not having to battle screen time! A great family get away all around! Priceless! A real win for any amount at the auction for you and our school!

A thousand thank you’s for letting us hang out at Koloa House. We loved it, definitely felt like real Hawaii and we’ll always be thankful. Hilo was fun and funky. Ken’s House of Pancakes will make you fat we discovered. Spam and rice? Guilty as charged.

We just returned last night and want to thank you for the use of your beautiful home. We enjoyed every minute of our stay – the girls spent hours exploring the wonders of the yard (pineapples! avocados! geckos!) and we ventured out daily to take in the sights highlighted in the big green binder. The house was extremely well equipped – as soon as we thought something like “it would be nice to have a cooler for a picnic” we’d check out the garage & find just what we needed! We loved not having a TV, listening to the eclectic CD collection & local radio, playing card & board games, and catching up on reading.

Here’s a picture that I’m sure you’ve seen many times! We can’t say enough about our visit to 30 Koloa. The minute we stepped foot inside your home, we could already feel how comfortable this week was going to be. Between being lulled to sleep in the evening by the geckos & frogs, and waking up to the sound of a passing rain shower & then listening to the birds singing away, we had a such a great time, we can’t wait to visit again soon. What a beautiful place to celebrate an anniversary & invite your best friends for their first time to Hawaii.

I visited the Koloa house in Hilo in March of 2007. The weather was perfect! I was very taken with the comfort of the house and the surrounding area. My bed was a little slice of heaven……..soooo comfortable. We cooked some nice dinners in the kitchen and enjoyed the relaxing living room. My favorite part however was the short bike ride to Richardson Beach. I also enjoyed being close to town and visiting the farmers market and eating a good breakfast at the Bear’s Coffee Cafe. Thank you! and I can’t wait to go back.

One of the greatest moments ever was hearing my 5 yr old son giggle when he saw the fishes and sea turtles in Richardson’s Bay, snorkeling for the first time. I can’t think of a better morning ritual then a swim with a giant sea turtle or a better way to fall asleep then being sung to by geckos and frogs. It was such a treat to be able to spend two weeks in the serene and lovely Koloa house.
